Gavaskar strongly opposed this suggestion, claiming that it would make it easier for batters to score runs at a time when the game already favours batting due to other restrictions. Instead, Sunil Gavaskar recommended a financial solution to address the reoccurring issue of no-balls. He suggested imposing fines that would grow with each subsequent infringement, as well as a penalty for the bowling coach equal to half of the player’s fine amount. According to his proposal, the fines collected might be used to pay for the team’s final dinner before the players left.
Beyond no-balls, Gavaskar proposed a broader framework for team discipline through financial sanctions. He added that additional on-field violations, such as neglecting to back up for a throw, should result in fines.
