Smriti Mandhana achieved the top spot on the all-time women’s T20 International run-scoring chart on September 20, 2026, during India’s Asian Games 2026 semi-final against Bangladesh at the Korogi Sports Park in Nagoya, Japan.

Smriti Mandhana surpassed Suzie Bates of New Zealand, who had previously amassed 4,758 runs across 186 matches, to achieve 4,765 runs in the format. The achievement established her as the most prolific batter in the annals of women’s Twenty20 Internationals.

Smriti Mandhana also achieved 100 sixes in women’s T20Is during the same innings, signifying a second significant milestone on the same afternoon. She contributed a fast 37 off 19 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes before being dismissed. She also shared a 72-run opening stand with Shafali Verma.

What is Smriti Mandhana position on the all-time women’s T20I run-scoring list?

Smriti Mandhana 4,765 runs have propelled her to the top of the women’s T20I run-scoring list, while Bates’ 4,758 runs in 186 matches have been surpassed. The tight competition at the summit of the chart prior to the semi-final is evidenced by the seven-run gap between the two batters.

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of India, is in third place with 4,287 runs. Chamari Athapaththu of Sri Lanka is in fourth place with 4,282, while Sophie Devine of New Zealand completes the top five with 3,817 runs. The profundity of run-scoring talent that the women’s game has produced on the subcontinent is underscored by the fact that the top three positions on the list are held by Indian or India-linked batters.

Smriti Mandhana consistency as a batsman in the women’s game is further substantiated by her accumulation of 10,964 runs across all three formats of international cricket, in addition to the T20I format. The record-breaking day, which encompassed both volume and striking power throughout her T20I career, is further bolstered by the 100-sixes milestone in T20Is, which was achieved in the same match.

What is the significance of the Asian Games 2026 setting for this record?

The milestone was established during the second women’s cricket semi-final of the Asian Games 2026, a multi-sport event held in Nagoya, Japan, which provides a broader context for the accomplishment than the bilateral and ICC calendars. The Asian Games platform is not part of the standard ICC bilateral and global tournament structure; however, the matches are granted full T20I status, which means that each run scored counts toward career tallies.

A spot in the gold medal match was at stake when India faced Bangladesh in a knockout fixture. Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in the first semi-final and will face the victor of the India-Bangladesh contest in the final, which could result in a high-profile gold medal match in Nagoya.

The location also underscores the growing presence of women’s cricket in international multi-sport competition. Mandhana’s attendance at a continental Games, as opposed to a bilateral series or ICC event, is indicative of the seriousness with which Asian nations are approaching the format and the increasing prominence of the women’s game in the region.
