In Qualifier 2, the Jamaica Kingsmen beat the Guyana Amazon Warriors by 5 wickets, which was a very exciting game. They then went on to win the CPL 2026 final. In the playoff game, Rovman Powell’s inning that won the game helped the Kingsmen score 207 runs. Because he hit well in the last few innings, Powell’s team won and went to the final to play the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.
Rovman Powell had a great cameo. He hit two fours and four sixes and ended the game unbeaten on 40 runs off of just 17 deliveries. He shared the Player of the Match award with Shimron Hetmyer, whose unbeaten hundred had made the run possible. With 102 off 45 balls, Hetmyer got his second hundred of the 2026 CPL season.
Rovman Powell also said that the Amazon Warriors were tough because they had won eight of their ten regular season games and were in first place in the league. The Warriors are a tough team to play because they have made it to the finals of the CPL three times in a row and won the tournament in 2023. Even though they were the best team in the league, the Warriors lost the final match.
Rovman Powell thought about his plan during the chase and the changes he made to stop the Warriors’ bowling attack. He knew how important intent was when he was hitting in the playoffs, where just making it through would not guaranty win. Because he was so aggressive, he was able to take advantage of the gaps that the other team’s bowlers made.
Rovman Powell underscored the significance of Hetmyer’s century in a playoff game and his performance under pressure. It was when it mattered most for his country that Hetmyer delivered, even though he had been criticized in earlier games. Powell knew that he had to be mentally tough to get back on track and perform at the highest level in such a tough environment.
Rovman Powell’s plan for how to beat the Warriors
Powell thought about his role as captain and how important it was to lead by example at important times. He said that coming up to bat at the very end of the game gave him a chance to show the toughness and drive that were needed to win a playoff game. His unbeaten 40 was a big reason why the Kingsmen won the final.

It was impressive how far the Jamaica Kingsmen got in the season, given how bad it started. The team, which was established in 2026, began its inaugural season with consecutive losses. However, it recovered and advanced to the championship game. Powell’s win in Qualifier 2 was the last piece in the new team’s successful comeback.
