As of soon, Ajit Agarkar will no longer be in charge of choosing players for the Indian men’s cricket team. A disagreement over the future of former India captain Rohit Sharma in one-day internationals was the main reason Agarkar quit the BCCI before the ODI World Cup 2027.

The trouble started right before India’s game against England with white balls. After the match at Lord’s, the selection committee, which was led by Ajit Agarkar and agreed with the team management, chose not to play Rohit in any more ODIs. One of Rohit’s best friends and South Zone judge Pragyan Ojha was asked to tell him the news.

Rohit was not pleased with the change. He wants to play in the ODI World Cup 2027. he talked to a top BCCI official to tell them he didn’t like how they were treating him. After that, the board told Ajit Agarkar to slow down because Rohit was regularly scoring runs. Ajit Agarkar , on the other hand, thought that young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal would need about 20 ODIs to get used to the format, and that aged Rohit might not be able to keep up his good form on South African pitches.

What changed for Ajit Agarkar after the BCCI statement to the media?

When the BCCI officially backed Rohit Sharma in the media and shut down rumors that he was retiring, things reached a critical point. Agarkar was completely caught off guard by the move; he had no idea that such a statement was being written or would be made public.

The statement made it clear to Agarkar that he no longer had as much power to make selection choices for senior players. With the ODI World Cup 2027 coming up, the fact that he would no longer be able to make important decisions on his own seemed to be the deciding factor in his decision to leave the board.

How did disagreements with VVS Laxman lead to Ajit Agarkar leaving?

Along with the Rohit Sharma incident, Ajit Agarkar and VVS Laxman, who is now the head of the BCCI Center of Excellence and used to play for India with Agarkar, had grown apart in important ways. The differences were mostly about how to handle injured players and when to play India “A” games.

There were big disagreements about which teams to send to events like the Asian Games. Agarkar saw it as a tier-two cricket event and didn’t see why India’s top squad should go. There was even more tension because important India “A” games kept clashing with local tournaments like the Irani Cup, and an India “A” series against New Zealand “A” ran right into the senior team’s white-ball games.

The Center of Excellence also didn’t give any specific times for injured centrally contracted players to get better. An injury list of top stars that was supposed to be kept secret was leaked to the media, which made things even worse between the two sides.
