The two cricketers have a history that dates back to the 1970s, when they both represented Pakistan at the highest levels. Their collaboration was essential in one of Pakistan cricket’s most memorable moments.
Miandad spoke emotionally about Khan’s character and current situation, reminiscing on their shared experience. Khan is in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, facing over 180 cases across Pakistan as of February 2026, following his re-arrest on August 5, 2023, in connection with the Toshakhana case, which involves the misuse of state gifts.
Pakistan had reached a critical situation of 24 for 2 before Miandad and Khan formed an important combination.
During Khan’s captivity, health difficulties arose, including considerable vision loss in one eye due to a delay in medical care in early 2026. Miandad’s passionate defence reflects a greater worry among former cricketers who have known Khan throughout his career and continue to urge for his well-being.

The 1992 World Cup final at Melbourne Cricket Ground remains a watershed point in their shared history. Khan struck 72 and Miandad contributed 58 as they accumulated 139 runs for the third wicket, allowing Pakistan to rebound and eventually win the trophy against England.
