Ravindra Jadeja will be part of India’s two-match Test series in Sri Lanka in August 2026. The 37-year-old Indian all-rounder will play the first Test in Galle on August 15, followed by the second Test in Colombo on August 23-27. Prior to the start of the first Test, India will play a four-day practice match in Colombo beginning on 7 August.

Jadeja sustained a tennis elbow injury during the 2026 Indian Premier League in May, preventing him from playing in the most recent Test against Afghanistan.

His most recent Test debut came in November, during India’s home series against South Africa at Guwahati. Prior to the Sri Lanka tour, Deep Dasgupta underlined the importance of Jadeja’s experience, stating that the all-rounder’s knowledge of the island nation’s playing conditions will be critical for a team that contains several first-time visitors.

“In terms of experience, several of the players are playing their debut Test series in Sri Lanka, but Jadeja has already played here. Even on spin-friendly grounds, you can’t just walk in and bowl and expect to get wickets.

Even there, you must locate the appropriate pace, line, and length. So he’ll know because he’s played there previously. His experience playing in Sri Lanka, as well as how he mentors new bowlers, will be crucial,” Dasgupta stated on YouTube.

Jadeja’s Sri Lankan expertise is crucial for coaching young bowlers.

Jadeja only needs two more wickets to reach the 350 Test wicket mark before departing on the Sri Lanka tour. In his 89 Test appearances, the all-rounder has scored 4095 runs.

In addition to giving India experience, his involvement in the team allows them to achieve a significant personal milestone throughout the series.

Gambhir’s experience as a spinner is beneficial for team development.

Prior to the series, Gautam Gambhir is directing camp practice with the Indian squad. Dasgupta cited Gambhir’s record against spinners over the previous 15 years and beyond, acknowledging his spin bowling abilities.

“Gautam was a good spin player. “If you look at the last 10-15 years, or even this century, he has been one of the best spin players,” Dasgupta said.

Dasgupta underlined the importance of the team’s camp sessions, noting that they will let players to spend time with Gambhir and improve their spin-fighting abilities. “He will be able to share his experiences and techniques from this camp,” he continued.

Prior to the first Test, India’s players will have the opportunity to practise in Colombo, which begins on 7 August.
