Michael Neser, an Australian fast bowler, will be unable to practice or compete for several weeks due to a strain in his right calf muscle. Neser has been training with the Australian team in Brisbane this month as a backup fast bowler in preparation for the historic two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
His current ambition is to tour South Africa later this year. The Rainbow Nation will host the Men in Yellow for three One-Day Internationals in September and three Tests in October against the Proteas.
The highly anticipated red-ball series will feature the previous season’s World Test Championship (WTC) finalists.
Michael Neser, 36, has played four ODIs and five Tests for Australia to date.
He has 22 wickets in the red ball format, with an average of 18.91 and a strike rate of 35.36. During the pinball Ashes Test against England at The Gabba in Brisbane in December last year, he recorded his best figures of 5/42. Furthermore, he has performed admirably at bat, averaging 18.71 in the game’s longest format.
Michael Neser played his most recent match for Australia at the Sydney Test against England at the Kennington Oval earlier this year. He has not played a white-ball international cricket match since the 2023 ODI against South Africa.
Josh Inglis, on the other hand, was expected to be fit for the first Test against Bangladesh in Darwin; nevertheless, his chances of selection appear small unless he is chosen above Cameron Green to bat at number five. Coach Andrew McDonald revealed that the wicketkeeper-batsman will most likely be selected against Bangladesh despite experiencing back spasms during an intra-squad game at Allan Border Field.
“His back has flared up. He has got them from time to time. There will be no problem; it will simply be a matter of waiting for things to calm down before he returns to work,” McDonald told cricket.com.au.
“We have ample time. He continued, “We’ll probably be conservative on that, make sure it’s right before you see him return into the nets and the preparation phase … there is no concern around whether he’d be available or not.”
