Jasprit Bumrah will miss the third ODI against England on Sunday (July 19) due to a knee ailment.
At the toss, skipper Shubman Gill stated that Bumrah had been dropped due to a knee injury, one of three changes India made from the second ODI. After losing in Cardiff and drawing the series 1-1, India welcomed back KL Rahul from sickness, as well as Prince Yadav and Arshdeep Singh, at Lord’s.
According to a BCCI statement, Jasprit Bumrah suffered an impact injury to his left knee while fielding in the second One-Day International in Cardiff. He was ruled out of selection for the third ODI owing to reactive swelling in his left knee.
Bumrah had finished his quota in the second ODI, ending with 1-45, building on his economical stint of 1-31 from nine overs in the previous game.
A day before the series decider, the BCCI stated that Washington Sundar would miss the third ODI due to a hamstring injury, while Harsh Dubey was added to the squad. However, India chose not to go with either him or Kuldeep Yadav, instead bolstering their fast-bowling capabilities.
With KL Rahul coming in, India elected to drop Shivam Dube while keeping Ishan Kishan, who had replaced Rahul in the second ODI.
Regarding the selection of Arshdeep, who was not chosen for the first two ODIs, Gill stated, “We’re not the ones who rely on data too much. We think he’s an excellent bowler, and we were hoping for four seamers on this pitch. We have observed that spinners do not contribute much in the middle overs when compared to fast bowlers.”
England also made one change from the second ODI in Cardiff, bringing back Josh Tongue for of Saqib Mahmood.
