Despite two poor starts in the current ODI series against England, former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel believes Rohit Sharma possesses the ability and experience to deliver a standout performance at Lord’s on Sunday. Despite suggestions that the Lord’s encounter could be the veteran’s final international appearance, Patel is certain that the seasoned opener will deliver when it matters the most.

Rohit scored 26 off 47 balls in Cardiff after making only 11 in the first ODI at Edgbaston. Before the decider, the series is tied at one. The winner-takes-all final at Lord’s will take place on Sunday, July 19.

Rohit Sharma has an impressive record in England, with seven centuries and 1,465 runs at an average of 61.04 in 29 ODIs. If the Lord’s ODI is the final match of his career, he hopes to finish with a century.

He is more than capable of accomplishing it. We’ve seen that throughout his career; after two or three poor scores, he frequently comes back with a match-winning knock in the next innings,” Parthiv Patel told JioHotstar.

“The distinction between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has always been consistency. Rohit may not score big in every game, but when he does, he plays a long innings and frequently wins the Player of the Match award.

He didn’t seem at ease throughout this game. The inconsistent bounce caused him to lose his rhythm. However, this is another opportunity for him to silence his critics. It has happened numerous times before, and he has always reacted with the bat.

So, if the Lord’s ODI is his farewell encounter, I hope he delivers an innings that people will remember for a long time,” Parthiv Patel added.

Can Rohit Sharma’s stunning Lord’s performance silence critics?

The experienced opener’s position in India’s long-term ODI squad has come under increased scrutiny as a result of his recent struggles. Rohit Sharma and the BCCI have not officially announced his retirement or exclusion from future squads.

The BCCI’s top selection committee has reportedly informed Rohit that he will no longer be a part of India’s long-term ODI plans following the England tour, with the team’s preparations for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup taking precedence.

In addition to determining the series victor, Sunday’s match in cricket’s home ground might mark the end of one of the best 50-over careers in modern cricket.
