A severe right hamstring strain was sustained by Ayush Mhatre, the 19-year-old youthful captain of Mumbai and captain of the India U-19 World Cup, during the Ranji Trophy season opener against Chandigarh on October 11. Mhatre was racing between wickets. The Grade 4 injury necessitated surgery at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Hospital for the juvenile Chennai Super Kings batter.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala on Thursday, October 22. According to a BCCI insider, Ayush Mhatre has initiated his recuperation process and is expected to resume playing competitive cricket within a specified time frame. He commenced the use of aids to walk on Friday morning, October 23, as part of his initial rehabilitation.

What was the date of Ayush Mhatre’s injury?

On the inaugural day of the Ranji Trophy campaign on October 11, the Mumbai batsman sustained an injury while sprinting between wickets against Chandigarh. A Grade 4 hamstring rupture in his right leg necessitated immediate treatment and subsequent surgical repair. In that game, Ayush Mhatre and Yashasvi Jaiswal had opened the innings prior to his injury.

What is the anticipated duration of recovery?

A grade 4 hamstring injury is one of the most severe muscle injuries and typically requires a prolonged period of recovery. The precise date of Ayush Mhatre’s return to full competitive play will be determined by the course of his recuperation over the next few weeks and months. His recovery will be closely monitored by the medical professionals at the BCCI’s Center of Excellence.

The juvenile batter’s history of hamstring issues

In recent months, Ayush Mhatre has experienced two instances of hamstring ailments. In April, while playing for Chennai Super Kings against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, he sustained a left hamstring injury that necessitated three months of recuperation. In Mumbai’s subsequent match against Himachal Pradesh, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Divyaansh Saxena opened the batting in lieu of Mhatre, who was absent from the Ranji Trophy.
